Driving

On the Hungarian motorways tolls-system operates. Vouchers can be bought for different periods: for 4 or 10 days, 1 month or 1 year.

The major motorways are:
M0 a ring road around Budapest,
  M1 Budapest - Gyõr - Hegyeshalom,
  M3 Budapest - Füzesabony,
  M7 Budapest - Zamárdi

Speed limits on the roads are the following:
  On motorways: 130 km/hour
  On public highway: 90 km/hour
  In built-up areas: 50 km/hours

Documents needed:
  Driving licence
  Liability insurance
  Green card

The rules on the road are the same as elsewhere in the EU. According to the practices of the Union the use of seatbelts are compulsory in cars both for those who sit in front and both in case of those who sit backseat. In Hungary alcohol-consumption is prohibited. Violating this rule can result in withdrawal of licence.

In case of parking in no parking zones vehicles are towed, and parking without parking ticket are also punished. Since there are not enough parking spots in Budapest parking a little bit farther on free spots in small streets can be a good solution.
