Thermal
baths
Countless natural springs lie beneath the surface of
Budapest. During the Roman empire the ancient Romans
began to channel the mineral water into public baths
at Acquincum. Later on after Hungary fell under Turkish
power, the Turkish built several baths as well and around
the turn of the 19-20th century new springs were discovered
and other baths were built. In the 20th century Budapest
became a "Spa City", a popular target of bath
tourism.
